Our Villa

Senbon Terrace, located in the Senbon Plateau area of Kumakogen Town, is a renovated late Showa-era building that can be rented as a whole. We built this villa with the desire to let guests experience mountain life in the midst of nature, with the clear air, starry skies, and sea of clouds that appear in the early mornings that are unique to the plateau at an altitude of 650m.

Meals are not included, so please bring your own ingredients and enjoy a fun dinner or breakfast with your family or friends, such as a BBQ or hotpot. (→Cooking equipment provided at the villa)

Immersed in overwhelming nature

At night, you can see a starry sky, and in the early morning, a sea of clouds. If you listen carefully, you can hear the chirping of insects and birds, and Mount Ishizuchi in the distance. In the truly quiet and clear air, the greenery and blue sky spread out before your eyes. Please enjoy a moment of silence.

Showa-era retro charm

Snow piles up here in winter. The blue tiled roofs are common in such cold regions. They are painted with pottery glaze and fired, making the surface smooth and allowing snow to slide off easily.

The blue roof and earthen floor were left as they were during the renovation. The wall tiles and shelves in the Japanese-style room were also left as they were. The retro Showa-era atmosphere remains intact. You can experience the nostalgic feeling of having traveled back in time to your grandmother’s countryside.

Although there are some retro lighting and fixtures, the bathroom and other areas have been modernized to ensure the convenience of your stay.

Renovation using natural materials

Under the floor, we have spread the humidity-regulating charcoal “Sumihachi” (1). In addition, the staff themselves have applied layers of “Kirara®,” a natural paint developed as a countermeasure against sick house syndrome (its main ingredients are coral fossils from Yonaguni Island and danto stone (quartz schist) from Aichi Prefecture, and natural pigments are used for coloring2). This natural paint (diatomaceous earth) has been used in renovation work at 40 elementary and junior high schools across Japan, and has been confirmed to be safe for children to ingest.

Almost the entire room, including the ceiling, is painted, so the air feels fresh when you enter the room. The closet walls are also painted, so moisture does not build up in the futons and blankets.

Because it is hand-painted, there are some unevenness in the finish, but the unique pattern remains. We hope you will enjoy the texture of the walls and relax during your stay. (→Go to the “Creating a Comfortable healthy villa” page)

More space to enjoy — garden, lawn, and garage.

The site area is approximately 825 square meters. In addition to the building, there is a garden, a grassy area, and a large warehouse (garage), which guests are free to use. Please be sure to follow the usage guidelines when using the facility.

garden

In the garden, which is covered with blue pebbles from Ozu, you can grill food on a barbecue grill (rental available for a fee) and observe the plants and small insects. The stone walls and round, flat stones are from the Niyodo River, known for its Niyodo blue color, and were purchased from a licensed quarrying company. When wet with rain, the stones shine a truly beautiful blue.

lawn square

There are many ways to enjoy this square, such as playing ball, placing a chair and relaxing while gazing at the sky, or laying out a yoga mat and enjoying yoga in the evening or early morning.

Large warehouse (garage)

The garage, a converted agricultural warehouse, can also be used as a parking space for guests who come by motorcycle or bicycle (bicycle stands and air pumps are provided). In the evening, you can enjoy a drink under the retro light bulbs in a garage bar-like atmosphere. There is also a piano, so why not play some nice music? (Please refrain from playing after 7pm.)
